Citrus County is 584 square miles of land and 189 square miles of water. The total area is 24.49% water. Rolling hills and naturally beautiful crystal clear springs, rivers, and lakes set us apart from other areas in the state. Environmentally and ecologically conscious, Citrus County has set aside land totaling about half of the county to preserve wildlife. Most noteworthy, Citrus County is home to the largest herd of wintering manatees in the state. North and eastern sides of our county are bound by the Withlacoochee River, the east by the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes and the west by the Gulf of Mexico.
